Rugby fans in Carmarthenshire are being urged to stick to the game plan during the 6 Nations rugby tournament. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Scarlets’ centre and Wales international Scott Williams has teamed up with the force to help supporters develop a game plan on how they can keep their cool and stay out of trouble as things hot up during the games. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Together they are encouraging people to be mindful of how much alcohol they are drinking while enjoying the game, whether out at a pub or rugby club or in the comfort of their own home. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Scott Williams said: “Having a drink while enjoying the game is all part of the 6 Nations experience and we don’t want to stop people having fun. What we want to encourage is people to stick to the game plan of taking it slow, drinking at their own pace, remaining in control of their own behaviour and staying out of trouble. You stick to your game plan and we’ll do our very best to stick to ours.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Inspector Jolene Mann said: “Alcohol can make people behave in ways they never normally would. This can lead to aggressive, confrontational behaviour and sometimes violence. This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated whether it happens at home, a pub or a public place. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Police officers will be patrolling local communities to ensure the 6 Nations is enjoyed safely and peacefully by all. Any inappropriate behaviour could result in arrest and being banned from all pubs and clubs signed up to the Behave or be Banned scheme. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“In addition, we know that alcohol can be a factor in domestic abuse and consequently there is a tendency for incidents to increase during high profile sporting events. I strongly believe if perpetrators followed our advice and sti ck to the game plan by limiting their alcohol intake that domestic abuse incidents could be avoided. Where we do receive reports of domestic abuse incidents, officers will arrest offenders wherever possible and highlight the support available to victims.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
