Over £5 Million Investment For Highways And Transport

Over £5 million capital investment has been approved by the county council’s cabinet for highways and transport works in Powys. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

At its meeting on Tuesday 24 May, the cabinet approved plans for highways and transport works throughout Powys over the next 12 months. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor John Brunt, Cabinet Member for Highways, said; “This capital investment is good news for our highways and transport network. This capital investment will be targeted and prioritised to maximise its effectiveness. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Given the continued revenue budget pressures, there are still significant challenges in maintaining the highway network. A further investment in energy efficient LED technology of £0.776m in our street lighting will see future savings in energy costs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We are also delighted to have secured £0.77m of additional funding from Welsh Government and further grant bids will also be submitted for further works.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
