Street Scene Services Transferred To Welshpool Town Council
Street scene services in Welshpool have been successfully transferred to the town council as part of the community delivery initiative, Powys County Council has announced.
From today (Tuesday 1 November), Welshpool Town Council will be responsible for a range of street scene services after they were transferred from the county council.
As part the agreement, they will carry out verge cutting on a regular basis within the 30mph boundaries of the town.
The town council will also be carrying out street cleaning duties including clearing and removing litter from streets, lay-bys, car parks and public open spaces. They will also be emptying street bins as well as carrying out leaf clearance work and sweeping the streets, town centre gardens and other open spaces within the town.
Cllr Graham Brown, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Delivery, said: “We are pleased to have successfully transferred these services to Welshpool Town Council. This service transfer will enable these areas to be kept tidy and attractive for visitors, tourists and residents in Welshpool.
“Our aim is to help more communities and community groups or town councils explore their options so we can sustain as many local services as possible, Welshpool Town Council is an excellent example of this.”
The council is continuing to work with town councils and other community organisations in taking on the running of other services or buildings as the community delivery initiative gathers pace.
