Appeal For Information As Stray Cat Killed After Penrhyn Bay Poisoning
A stray cat in the Llandudno area has lost his life after being poisoned with anti-freeze, prompting an appeal for information – and a vigilance warning – from RSPCA Cymru.
On 25 January, a member of the public found the collapsed cat, who was shivering and displaying symptoms consistent with being poisoned.
The black and white domestic shorthair cat was found on Llandudno Road, in Penrhyn Bay. There is no indication that the cat had an owner.
RSPCA Cymru collected the cat, who was taken for veterinary inspection. Sadly, it was found the cat had been poisoned by anti-freeze, and had to be put to sleep.
The charity is now appealing to members of the public who may have any information about the incident to come forward.
Cat owners in the local area are also being urged to be vigilant and cautious at this time. Poisoning symptoms may include vomiting, seeming depressed or sleepy, appearing drunk or uncoordinated, seizures and breathing difficulties.
RSPCA animal collection officer William Galvin said:
“This poor stray cat has lost its life due to poisoning.
“While we cannot be sure of the circumstances behind this incident, we are urging anyone with information to contact us. “Our inspectorate appeal line can be reached on 0300 123 8018, and calls are treated in confidence.
“We’re also urging cat owners in the local area to be vigilant, and know the symptoms and advice. Anyone suspecting a poisoning incident should stay calm, remove their pet from the poisonous source and contact their vet immediately.”
