Budgie Abandoned On Street In Fish Tank
A budgie has been allegedly abandoned on a Bridgend street in a fish tank.
The green and yellow bird was found at Glanffornwg on 11 May at 5.30pm.
RSPCA animal welfare officer Paula Milton said: “We have no other information or evidence, but it appears that this budgie has sadly been abandoned.
“We are appealing for information to try and find out what happened.
“Anyone with information about this incident should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are treated in confidence.”
Budgies have specialist needs which can be challenging to meet in the home. They are social birds which require beneficial interactions with their own species and so need to be kept in male pairs. They also require a large aviary for free flight, or to be allowed out of their cage in order to exercise daily. They are also at risk of metabolic bone disease, so require the correct diet, supplements and UVB lighting. Budgies also need a full and varied diet and owners can not rely purely on commercial bird seed diets to provide balanced nutrients.
