Llanelli Couple Banned From Keeping Animals As Dog Left In ‘Truly Shocking State’
A Llanelli couple have been banned from keeping all animals for three years, after pleading guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a dog, with an RSPCA Inspector saying the animal had been allowed to get into a “truly shocking state”.
Veterinary care was not provided to the Terrier type dog, known as Bella, despite it suffering from a serious skin condition.
Mr Craig Palmer (D.o.B 23/06/1991) and Ms Sophie Palmer (D.o.B 30/04/1994), were banned from keeping animals for three years, after admitting the Animal Welfare Act offences at a pre-trial conference before the District Judge in Llanelli on 3 November.
The couple, both of Dylan, Llwynhendy, Llanelli, have also been sentenced to a 12-month supervision, and 90-hours of unpaid work each. Each defendant must also pay £250 costs, and a £60 victim surcharge.
In December 2015, the RSPCA found the dog with virtually no hair remaining on her body. She was taken to a veterinary practice for independent assessment, where it was found that the animal had unnecessarily suffered.
Fortunately, the dog has made a strong recovery after such a difficult ordeal, with an RSPCA Inspector also highlighting Bella’s “incredible transformation” following treatment. Bella’s rehabilitation is continuing in RSPCA care.
RSPCA Inspector Rohan Barker said:
“This poor dog had been allowed to get into a truly shocking state, with this case highlighting exactly what can happen if an owner does not ensure their animals receive appropriate veterinary care.
“Fortunately, after getting the treatment she so desperately needs, Bella has undergone an incredible transformation.”
