Porth Couple Left ‘Shocked’ After Deer Pelt Found In Garden
A couple in Porth were left shocked after the pelt of a deer was found dumped in their back garden, with its presence a “complete mystery”.
RSPCA Cymru is urgently appealing for information as to how the deer’s skin was thrown into the South Wales garden, on High Street in Porth, fearing that it could be linked to wildlife crime.
The animal skin – with one piece measuring approximately one metre in length – was found on Saturday 17 December, with the deer’s head visibly cut from the pelt. Other cuts of skin showed entrails from the animal.
It had been tossed into the remains of an old compound, found in the back garden of the Porth property.
Sophie Daniels, RSPCA inspector, said:
“It is a complete mystery what happened to this deer, and why its pelt was dumped in somebody’s back garden in this way.
“RSPCA Cymru is concerned that the deer skin could be linked to a wildlife crime incident, and we are taking this incident very seriously.
“The land backs onto a lane and neighbouring school, so we understand they often find litter discarded in their property – but never something like this. They were shocked.
“We are appealing to anyone who has information about this incident to contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are treated in confidence.”
