RSPCA Bryn-Y-Maen Launch Urgent Cat Appeal As Numbers Reach “Worryingly High” Levels
With approximately 80 cats currently in their care, the RSPCA’s Bryn-Y-Maen Animal Centre is launching an urgent re-homing appeal for anyone looking for a forever, feline friend.
Centre manager Victoria Williams says the number of cats looking for a new home is “worryingly high”.
RSPCA Cymru is reminding members of the public to prioritise adopting, rather than shopping, if they are considering a new addition to their family.
Cats seeking a new home include four adorable kittens, named after stars of TV show ‘The Great British Bake Off’. Nadiya, Berry, Selasi and Benjamina are hoping for a new start after being abandoned.
The four Bake Off kittens arrived at the centre, having been found outside a Dolgellau veterinary practice in a box at the end of August. All four, black and white, 12-week-old kittens are searching for a loving, calm home, where someone will be around for part of the day until they are old enough to go outside.
Friendly feline Chloe is another cat at RSPCA Bryn-Y-Maen seeking a forever home. Best suited to somebody who has experience with long-coat cats, this beautiful three-year-old, Tortoiseshell has been in the RSPCA’s care since March 2016, and craves attention and affection.
Betha, too, needs someone to give her a chance. She is a short-haired Tortoiseshell and white cat, aged about six years old. Betha is looking for an owner ready to continue her happy and healthy lifestyle; after she arrived at the centre significantly overweight. She requires a home without other animals.
Victoria Williams said:
“Last year, the centre rehomed nearly 300 cats, but the numbers we currently have for adoption is worryingly high.
“We have approximately 80 in our care. As a centre, we prioritise animals rescued from cruelty and neglect, so our cats are often looking for a second chance for a happy forever home.
“With such large numbers of cats desperately seeking a forever home, it’s so important that the public always look to adopt, and not shop, when considering getting a companion animal.
“From the Bake Off-inspired kittens, named Nadiya, Berry, Selasi and Benjamina, to older cats, people across North Wales can contact the centre, or look online, to find out more about the abundance of animals in our care.”
Based in Upper Colwyn Bay, the Bryn-y-Maen centre provides specialist care for domestic and farm animals, and staff also provide support to injured wildlife.
