A seal pup has been rescued by RSPCA Cymru in remarkable circumstances – after being spotted almost seven miles from the sea in the Vale of Glamorgan! ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The charity rescued the pup after it was found in a farmer’s field in Graig Penllyn near Cowbridge on December 21. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

RSPCA Cymru believes the pup must have reached the field after undertaking an extraordinary journey up the streams of the River Thaw. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

He was found dehydrated and a little underweight – but is now undergoing rehabilitation in RSPCA care, and is anticipated to be ready for release in the near future. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Gary Lucas, RSPCA animal collection officer, said: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“I’ve worked for the RSPCA for almost 30 years, and this was my first ever seal rescue – and in quite amazing circumstances. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“As the crow flies, this amazing seal pup was almost seven miles from the sea and must have reached Graig Penllyn after travelling up the tiniest of streams possible. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Thankfully, whilst the pup was a little thin and clearly dehydrated, he seems to be doing okay. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“It is hoped, after a period in RSPCA care, that he can be released along with other seal pups in the near future.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
