Matthew Moore, Year 3, Ysgol Henllan, and his illustration of Willy Wonka is named winner of the 8 and under category, whilst Miĉa Sales, Year 6, Ysgol Bodfari, and her illustration of the Fantastic Mr Fox, is named winner of the 9-12 category. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Both winning illustrations were chosen from over 764 entries and will become the official images for Denbighshire Education & Children’s Services’ innovative project entitled “Denbighshire Schools Takeovers 2016 inspired by Roald Dahl”, a series of exciting activities, workshops, events and celebrations, marking 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl, the World’s No.1 storyteller and author of much loved stories including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach and The BFG. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

To enter the competition, primary school children were invited to draw their favourite Roald Dahl characters using their imagination and drawing skills. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The panel of judges was overwhelmed by the number of entries and the thought that had gone into the artwork. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The level of entries was so great that Denbighshire Education and Children’s Services awarded additional prizes including 28 Highly Commended prizes in the 8 and under category and 28 Highly Commended prizes in the 9-12 category. Leah Galeandro, Year 4, Age 9, Ysgol Bodfari, deserves a special mention too, as her Highly Commended illustration has been chosen as the official image for Denbighshire Education and Children’s Services’ Roald Dahl themed “Intergenerational” activities and workshops under the title, “All Together Now!” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Denbighshire Education and Children’s Services will be exhibiting all the artwork at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod (5-10 July 2016), where there will be a “People’s Choice” prize to be won. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
