100% Employment Rate For NCTJ Journalism Graduates

Wrexham Glyndwr University’s journalism students have celebrated a 100% employment success in their course presentations. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Author and gay rights campaigner, James Wharton, presented the awards to students on the Certificate of HE in Journalism on Friday. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The students, all now working as journalists, were also presented with their National Council for the Training of Journalists certificates by James, who is an honorary fellow of the university. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He urged them to continue with the high standard of journalism set by the NCTJ accredited course. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Journalism remains a really important part of our society so go out there and do the best job you can,” he said. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The journalism course – part of the School for Creative Arts – works in partnership with local media groups to give students both the NCTJ qualifications and over 300 hours of work experience spread over 22 weeks. It offers one and two-year options for achieving the industry standard NCTJ diploma. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Susan Perry, deputy editor at NWN Media, which provides placements for the course said she was really proud of all the achievements of all the students. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Course leader, Janet Jones, paid tribute to the dedication and commitment of the students, the university and regional media groups which had resulted in the job success. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We are looking forward to watching their progress, along with all the other Wrexham Glyndwr University journalism students who are now working in newsrooms across the country,” she said. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
