Fitness Festival Returns To Wrexham With Another Hula Hoop World Record Attempt

A celebration of health, fitness and wellbeing returns to North Wales with another world record attempt. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Following the success of the inaugural Wrexham Fitness Festival, organiser Sasha Kenney is bringing the popular event back to the town on Saturday October 1. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Last year’s programme took place at to Wrexham Glyndwr University and was a huge hit with visitors, who also participated in a bid to break the world record for the largest ever hula hoop workout. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Fitness instructor Sasha plans to “smash” that effort with up to 600 people taking part, as well as doubling the number of overall attendees to 1,000. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our debut event was such a success that we can’t wait to bring it back to Wrexham,” said Sasha, who already appears in the Guinness Book of World Records having hula hooped the entire 26.2mile course of the London Marathon three years ago. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We want to more than double the number of people attending and really smash that hula hoop world record, so I hope the community gets behind us.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

She added: “We want it to be bigger and better and that means we need more support and sponsors, so I’m asking for businesses who would like to help us to please get in touch and help promote fitness, health and wellbeing in North Wales and beyond.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Wrexham Fitness Festival will feature different areas appealing to people of all ages and backgrounds. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

There will be an active zone with classes including body-balancing and fit steps, a chill-out zone, kids’ zone, family zone and a new mind and body zone. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

More than 30 exhibitors at the festival will showcase all the great wellness and fitness services on offer in Wrexham, and there will be lectures and workshops across the day. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Sasha has worked with many sports organisations and instructors during her time in Wrexham and thought it would be a good idea to celebrate what the town has to offer. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“I wanted to encourage the people of North Wales to get moving, live well and be happy, so tying this festival in with the world record attempt was a good way to do that,” she said. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Being fit isn’t all about thin bodies it’s about having a lovely time with friends and family in a comfortable atmosphere, which is what we will be promoting on the day and for many years to come.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Sasha added: “I thought Wrexham Glyndwr University would be the perfect place to host the festival because of its sporting tradition and facilities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We already have a great partnership and I can see this event growing year on year.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Professor Maria Hinfelaar, Vice Chancellor of Wrexham Glyndŵr University, echoed Sasha’s words and encouraged students, businesses and residents to show their support. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
