Hundreds Attend Game Design Students’ Level Up Event Showcasing Their Projects
More than a hundred gaming fans and developers attended a successful showcase event at Wrexham Glyndwr University.
The institution’s Computer Game Development course opened its doors to the public on Wednesday (May 25) to showcase their students’ projects and local developers at their Level Up event.
Nathan Roberts, senior lecturer in Computing, said: “The Level Up Expo focused on the work from our second and final year students.
“The expo has provided an invaluable means to make what we do accessible to the public, on the day we were able to invite several organisations to see the capabilities of our students and everyone was literally blown away.
“This in turn has provided us unique ways in which we can collaborate with industry helping us to work together to provide real-world experiences and help promote the growth of the industry in the area and employment opportunities for students.
“The expo this year has welcomed, the general public, game companies, charities, a variety government bodies, and a variety of hobbies to and industry specialists, all have provided an expressive interest in working with the University and even offered employment to some of our students demonstrating on the day.”
Regional gaming companies also presented their work alongside Computer Game Development, Immersive Technology and Creative Computing students.
During the event visitors were able to play test students’ games ranging from first person shooters and action plat formers to serious game applications.
Industry exhibitors attended the event including BAFTA Cymru; TT Games; Gaia Tech; The Brew Network and The Game Homepage.
Level Up was part funded by the Welsh Government and supported by Games Wales and BAFTA Cymru.
