Leaders In Computer Industry To Descend On Wrexham For Popular Gaming Event
Leaders in animation and virtual reality will unite to showcase technology and offer tips to hundreds of students and industry insiders at one of Wales’ top gaming events.
The popular InitGame returns to Wrexham Glyndwr University on Saturday October 22, with some of the sector’s biggest names in attendance.
Organised by Rich Hebblewhite, a senior lecturer in Computing at the north east Wales University, the line-up includes:
Chris Payne and Ralph Ferneyhough – Quantum Soup
Toby Niesser and Martin Moss – Vivid Virtual Reality
Ian Thomas – Frictional Games & TaleSpinners
Anton Faulconbridge of RantMedia Games
Jack Penny, Dafydd John and Philippe Valensa – Turtle Games
Judith Alexander – Wrexham Glyndwr University Enterprise Lounge, Zone and Careers Centre
InitGame 2016 is being supported by Games Wales (North), BAFTA Cymru and the British Computing Society.
Rich says tickets for the free programme – which runs from 11am until 5pm – are going fast, and urges people to sign-up quickly so they don’t miss out.
“This is just our third year yet the event has already built-up a great reputation and is attracting some of the games arena’s most-respected names,” he said.
“We are also proud to have the support of BAFTA Cymru and thrilled to be able to bring the cream of gaming to Wrexham.
“It’s an opportunity not only to listen to the advice and success of tremendous companies that have achieved so much in the games world, but also for people to come together and network, develop ideas and learn from the best.”
He added: “Together we are championing the Welsh games and media industry, which is our ultimate aim.
“So far we have been very successful, and I’m confident that will continue and the event’s reputation will grow further on October 22.”
As well as presentations and workshops, InitGame offers start-ups, students and graduates a sounding board and platform to explore the sector and receive vital support.
The event will close with an open Q&A session on CVs and interview tips along with general advice on getting into the industry.
Initgame 2016 will be a particularly special occasion for Rantmedia, coming off their victory at the Bafta Cymru Awards for Games and Interactive Experience, where they picked up the prize for Best Game.
