Students Join Prestigious French Industry Programme After Business Contest Victory
Savvy students will have a Nice time in the South of France on an extreme entrepreneurship course after winning a business competition.
Scott Caveney and Selina Ellis, from Wrexham, received the prize after writing essays on the subject for North Wales Business School (NWBS).
The pair, who both study BA (Hons) Business, will now travel to Nice for the three-week programme with the European Innovation Academy, the world’s largest entrepreneurship summer scheme.
The contest is one of many incentives available to students joining the School – part of Wrexham Glyndŵr University – and both Scott and Selina are thrilled to be taking part in it.
Scott said: “We are both looking forward to attending the course and representing the University and North Wales Business School.
“We had to write a 1,000 word essay about why we should be selected for the programme, so we’re thrilled to have been chosen to attend.”
Selina added: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so we can’t wait to go out there.
“It will be hard work as well, we won’t just be sitting on the beach, and I’m sure it will be very enjoyable and informative, helping us with our future studies.”
The programme is strongly influenced by prestigious start-up accelerators from Silicon Valley and features huge brand names, including Google and Apple.
Scott and Selina will join students from all over the world, including Princeton in the US and the University of Tokyo, and be given a “deep insight” into real start-up life.
Participants will also gain valuable experience by working together with people from across the globe before leaving with new skills and a clearer perception of business life.
Professor Chris Jones, Head of NWBS, congratulated the pair and said the competition will be back even bigger and better next year.
“We plan to open this up to even more students from 2016/17 onwards,” said Professor Jones.
“This is an incredible prize and will give Scott and Selina a fabulous understanding of different aspects of business and entrepreneurship.
“Everyone at North Wales Business School wishes them luck; we hope they have a great time out there and that other students, especially prospective students, take notice of these opportunities and join us here in Wrexham.”
