University Opens Its Doors To Showcase Students And Local Game Design Projects
Game design students and local developers will be showcasing their work at Wrexham Glyndwr University’s open event.
The institution’s Computer Game Development course is opening its doors to the public to showcase about 30 projects, designed and built by the students at their Level Up event.
Regional gaming companies are also invited to present their work and showcase any upcoming new projects and mingle with possible future employees.
Richard Hebblewhite, Glyndwr’s Computer Game Development programme leader, said: “As well as demonstrating student work, the aim of the show is to help bolster the local and regional games, interactive media and development sector by encouraging soon to be and recent graduates and local young people to form their own start-up companies.
“A significant number of student projects will be available to play test ranging from first person shooters and action plat formers to serious game applications promoting Welsh history and culture.
“We still have exhibit space for local developers wanting to come along and exhibit on the day.”
The Level Up event will also present, Unjust, a game developed by a team of students, Turtle Games UK, who have reached the final of a global game design competition Dare to be Digital.
Industry exhibitors currently lined up include BAFTA Cymru; TT Games; Gaia Tech; The Brew Network and The Game Homepage.
Focus Shift Films will demonstrate their VR and 360 camera tech and local game store Pixels will be showing a selection of classic gaming consoles.
The free event will be held at the Catrin Finch Centre on Wednesday, May 25 from 10am-5pm.
Local schools and colleges are invited and Wrexham Glyndwr University’s Zone Enterprise centre and career officers will also host starter workshops which last year led to jobs with local firms.
Level Up is part funded by the Welsh Government and supported by Games Wales and BAFTA Cymru.
