University To Showcase Its Postgraduate Courses At Next Month’s Open Evening

Students who want to be masters of their own destiny should attend an event showcasing the best of postgraduate study at Wrexham Glyndŵr University. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Representatives from the Schools of Social and Life Sciences, Creative Arts, Engineering and Computing, and North Wales Business School will be in attendance on Wednesday June 8 from 4.30pm-6.30pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Prospective students are invited to find out more about the courses on offer, including postgraduate degrees and flexible part-time and professional qualifications that will help them develop their career prospects. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar, urged those already in work, students currently studying an undergraduate degree and anyone interesting in furthering their education to visit the Wrexham campus. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our open evening is a great opportunity to find out more about your particular area of interest, how studying with us can fit around your personal and professional life, as well as how we can help you to finance your studies at postgraduate level,” said Professor Hinfelaar. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Here at Wrexham Glyndwr the student comes first and the journey doesn’t end when you graduate. Whether people go on to study a Masters’ degree or enter the world of work we are with them every step of the way and take an active role in helping them follow their chosen path. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We are a new university and can be more flexible in our approach, but our values are traditional in that we care about every one of our students and will be hands-on in our support of their studies, offering advice and one-to-one guidance if needed.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

She added: “Anyone interested in studying for a postgraduate qualification can find out more at the event, whether they’re already in higher education, at Wrexham Glyndwr elsewhere, or wanting to move up the ladder in their place of work. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A report last year by Universities UK – Patterns and Trends in UK Higher Education – revealed that under-25s now make up a third of postgraduates. In 2013–14, UK universities were teaching around 2.3 million students, 19% of whom were studying for postgraduate taught qualifications and 5% for postgraduate research degrees. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The event will be held at the University’s Centre for the Creative Industries on Mold Road, Wrexham. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
