University Unveils New Business Incubation Centre… And Its First Client
Wrexham Glyndwr University has unveiled a new business incubation complex.
Principal’s House on Regent Street has already welcomed its first client, Hybrid Coaching.
The centre will help companies to grow, with support from the University’s Zone Enterprise Hub and Careers Centre, and Computing lecturer, Nathan Roberts.
Prices range from £50-75 per week and include Wi-Fi, kitchen facilities, parking and easy access to the town centre.
Zone Manager Judith Alexander said spaces are available and suitable for a maximum 3-4 occupants.
“We want to create a base for companies to flourish and grow in tandem with the University,” she said.
“This environment will be perfect for that; as well as the knowledge and support we can give, clients will be kitted-out with desks, chairs and will have access to other services.
“Wrexham Glyndwr already has a strong relationship with industry in north east Wales and this will further develop those links.”
Judith added that Principal’s House could also be a future site for social enterprise schemes and education projects bringing academia and business together.
Mark Childs, founder of Hybrid Coaching, has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the institution.
A Wrexham Glyndwr alumnus himself, the former sports lecturer began trading in 2013 and has never looked back, having been the first person to ever join the Enterprise Lounge, a shared office facility for early stage businesses.
Three years later and Hybrid has worked with thousands of disabled students, developing bespoke systems and speech-recognition software to help them learn.
He said: “I initially set the business up in my spare bedroom in Coedpoeth, and it slowly grew from there.
“I then moved over to the Enterprise Lounge where Judith and the team supported me and helped me to develop things further.
“This was a natural next step as we continue to grow.”
Mark added: “Principal’s House is a great location for us and it will be beneficial in terms of networking and sharing best practice with other firms and individuals when they join us here.
“We are currently developing our own mind-mapping software and there are many other developments in the pipeline, so it’s an exciting time for us, and for the University.”
The unveiling of the new-look incubation centre comes as the North Wales Business School at Wrexham Glyndwr celebrates its first anniversary.
The School was founded to further meet the demands of the region, producing innovative degrees and professional courses in partnership with employers.
