Drop-In Drawing Sessions As Part Of Open Day At Brambell Natural History Museum

Bangor University’s Natural History collections housed at Brambell Building will be open to the public on Saturday, 14 May between 11am and 3pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This will be an opportunity to visit the University’s Natural History Museum, which is not usually accessible to the public, to learn more about the animals and plants on display. There will be a chance to ask questions of the available volunteers, and there will be an activities corner for children of all ages. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The artist Jaci Atkinson, a tutor in the Art Department, Bangor University will be available on the day to lead on drop in drawing sessions suitable for all ages. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

As part of the joint project with Gwynedd Council “Engaging Collections: Widening Access to Gwynedd’s Heritage” that is partly funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund, it is intended to improve access to Bangor University’s hidden museum collections. This will offer local residents and visitors a chance to enjoy and learn about the vast variety of specimens on display. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Dr Rosanna Robinson, Curator of the Museum said: “We are intending to open the Brambell Museum more often to provide access to the public. This builds on the success of the Bangor Science Festival that has been very popular and the Museum is always well attended on these days.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
