North Wales Police are warning car owners in Bangor and Caernarfon areas to ensure vehicles are kept locked and secure and where possible to remove all items of value following a recent spate of thefts in area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sgt Emma Williams, at Bangor Police Station said “Over the last week we have seen a slight spike in vehicle related crime and all with a similar pattern. On five occasions offenders have targeted vehicles, where property has unfortunately been left in view by the owners, and entry was gained by smashing a window to steal the contents and one by simply opening an unlocked door. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Amongst property stolen is an X-Box, reading glasses, camera equipment, a satnav system and a torch. The crimes have taken place across the Bangor and Caernarfon areas with no particular pattern and seemingly opportunistic although all offences have taken place overnight. Two further incidents relate to an as yet unknown male trying to open car doors but as they were locked and the suspect was possibly disturbed, no thefts took place.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sergeant Williams concluded “Investigating officers have charged, and this morning remanded a 35 year old local man in connection with two of the thefts and enquiries are still on-going in relation to the others however it is really important vehicle owners take simple steps to deter opportunists and avoid becoming a victim of crime. Please take a little extra time to check your vehicle when you leave it and if possible, remove all items of value and lock the vehicle ensuring any alarm or immobiliser is activated. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Our investigations will continue however it must be stressed that we need assistance from our local communities to reduce incidents of this nature and identify those responsible in the first instance. Remain vigilant at all times, always ensure your property is locked and secured and if you see any suspicious behaviour contact police immediately” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

North Wales Police would like to hear from anyone who has information about recent car crime in the area to contact them via the web live chat http://www.north-wales.police.uk/contact/chat-support.aspx & quote RC17003827. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
