A 22-year-old man was arrested this morning (Monday, December 5th) after failing the roadside drugs swipe test following a road traffic collision in Flint. Thankfully nobody was injured. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The man, who is local to the area, has been released on police bail pending the result of further tests, but he has been charged with disqualified driving, driving with no insurance and driving without due care and attention. He has been remanded to appear before Mold Magistrates tomorrow morning (Tuesday, December 6th). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Since the campaign launched on December 1st, police have made 15 arrests in relation to drink driving and six for drug driving. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

One of the highest drink drive readings so far has been 119 – the legal limit is 35. Late at night on Sunday, December 4th local officers were on routine patrol on the Flint Retail Park when they had cause to stop a man driving in his vehicle. The man was breathalysed and found to be over the legal limit. The 42-year-old was arrested and has since been charged with drink driving. He has been bailed to appear before Mold Magistrates on Tuesday, December 20th. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sergeant Trystan Bevan from North Wales Police’ Roads Policing Unit said: “It is disappointing that a small minority of people are still intent on ignoring our messages. We are not yet a week into the campaign, however, 21 individuals have already been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We are fully committed to making the roads safer for all and we will continue to target those who endanger their own lives and the lives of others. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Anyone who is considering driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs should know that we will be out and about waiting.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Social media users can follow the campaign via the #Fatal5 hashtag. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
