Drivers’ hours targeted during road safety operation

A road safety operation targeting heavy goods was carried out in Denbighshire today (Tuesday 9th February).
Working alongside the Commercial Vehicle Unit, officers from North Wales Police’ Roads Policing Unit and the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency – formally known as VOSA) carried out the operation at the weighbridge on the A525 near St Asaph.
A total of ten vehicles were stopped. All were within their weight limits however one driver was issued with a warning regarding drivers’ hours and another driver was given advice regarding an insecure load.
Sergeant Tony Gatley from the Roads Policing Unit said: “The impact day was done as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping the roads safe for all.
“It was pleasing to see that all vehicles that were stopped were within the weight limits however it is still disappointing that some professional drivers are not fully complying with their obligations in relations to hours worked and loading their vehicles safely.
“We will continue to take action against drivers who commit offences on our roads.”
