Further Appeal Following Fatal Collision Near Dolgellau

Police are issuing a further appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision near Dolgellau yesterday afternoon (Sunday, March 5th). ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Shortly after 2pm North Wales Police received a report of a collision on the A470 outside the Coed-y-Brenin Visitor Centre involving a silver-coloured Renault Megane Dynamique estate car. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Sadly, one man was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor by ambulance with minor injuries. He has since been discharged from hospital. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes from the Roads Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for any witnesses who may have been travelling along the A470 between Dolgellau and the Coed y Brenin area sometime between 1:20pm and 2pm and who recall seeing the silver Renault Megane Dynamique estate travelling northbound along this road to contact us. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We are also appealing for anyone who saw the car travelling along the A487 between Machynlleth and the junction with the A470 between 12:30 and 12:45 to contact us. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Anybody travelling along those roads yesterday and who may have dash cam footage from their vehicles are also urged to check if a vehicle matching the above description can be seen on the footage.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The road was closed whilst officers remained at the scene and diversions were put in place. The road re-opened shortly before 10pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
