Llanbedrog Incident Update

North Wales Police are not looking for anyone else as they continue their investigation into the death of an 18-year-old man in Llanbedrog on Sunday February 5. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Emergency services were called to a car park next to the Ship Inn in Llanbedrog at 12.15am on Sunday where Peter Robert Colwell, aged 18years of age from Capel Uchaf near Clynnog Fawr, had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. His family are being supported by specially trained officers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Officers recovered a shot gun from the scene and four local men arrested in connection with the incident have been bailed pending further enquiries. These four men and the deceased were friends. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Detective Superintendent Iestyn Davies said; “Although this tragic incident is being treated as a murder investigation, we are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We are employing experts to help us establish exactly what happened and how the firearm came to be discharged. I would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident involving local people and there is no wider threat to the public. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We are not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation and the firearm involved has been recovered. We will be consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service in due course regarding any charges that may be made.’’ ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our sympathies go out to Peter Colwell’s family and friends at his difficult time for them all.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
