Prestatyn SNT Pick Up Two Awards
There were double celebrations for the Prestatyn Safer Neighborhood Team last week.
The team, under the leadership of Sgt Mark Jones, were presented with the Non Parry Neighbourhood Policing Initiative Cup at the force award ceremony on the same night that Prestatyn Town Council named them winners of the group award in their Community Award Scheme.
Prestatyn SNT have made huge strides in developing community policing over the last 12 months, finding out what matters to local residents and businesses, and directing their activities accordingly.
In presenting the team with the council award, Coun Bob Murphy, Mayor of Prestatyn, said: “They have worked tirelessly over the last 12 months making positive contributions to the community they serve.”
The team have been actively involved in a number of community events and initiatives, such as Dementia Friends, Prestatyn Carnival, ISPY, Artisans Halloween and they arranged a youth activity day ‘Time to Shine’ at Pontins, as well as the monthly ‘Cuppa with a Coppa’ sessions.
They have also been instrumental in, helping the local business forum to find a replacement for their aged and expensive shop link radio system. They produce and distribute a quarterly news magazine with SNT updates and, most recently they have become involved in the provision of on-line safety advice relating to Facebook and other Social media.
“They are well respected and valued members of the community. Every single activity they organise is for the benefit of the community.”
“They want the town to be a safe and happy place, which makes it more prosperous.” He added: “They are all stars in my eyes.”
Responding on behalf of the team Sgt Jones said: “It is an honour to have been nominated for these awards. We make every effort to get involved and are very community focused.”
