Proceeds Of Crime Act – Confiscation Against Two Gwynedd Bus Company Directors
Two men have been ordered to pay over £100,000 in compensation to Gwynedd County Council in relation to fraud offences involving falsely claiming concessionary bus pass money.
On 24th March 2016, at Caernarfon Crown Court, Darren Charles Price was sentenced to 2 years 3 months imprisonment and John David Hulme was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for fraud offences. John David Hulme was also found guilty of possessing indecent images and was sentenced to a further 27 months imprisonment.
On 27th January 2017, at Caernarfon Crown Court, a Confiscation Order was made by HHJ Huw Rees under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) 2002 against Darren Charles Price. He was ordered to pay £60,948.65 and was given three months to pay the order or face 1 year imprisonment.
At a later hearing on 15th February 2017, at Caernarfon Crown Court, a Confiscation Order was made by HHJ Huw Rees against John David Hulme. He was ordered to pay £42,894.35 and was given three months to pay the order or face 8 months imprisonment.
Detective Sergeant Haydn Williams, Head of the Force Financial Investigation Unit, said “This is another example of how North Wales Police will actively pursue criminals and will use the powers of the Proceeds of Crime Act to strip offenders of any property, including their homes, cars and cash that they possess. In this case the whole amount will be paid over to Gwynedd County Council, ultimately back to the community of Gwynedd. “
