Several Drug-Related Arrests By The Roads Policing Unit

The weekend saw several drug-related arrests made by officers from the Roads Policing Unit. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

During the early hours of Sunday (March 19th) a man was stopped on Deiniol Road in Bangor. He failed the roadside drugs test after testing positive for cocaine. The 28-year-old man, who is local to the Bangor area has since been released on police bail pending the results of further tests. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A 20-year-old man has also been reported for driving offences including driving with no valid licence or insurance after he was stopped in the Sealand area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Shortly after 8pm on Saturday, March 18th officers stopped a vehicle on the A55 in Bodelwyddan where a large quantity of what is believed to be Class B drugs were found. The driver – a 35-year-old man from the Pwllheli area was also found to be driving on an expired provisional licence and had no insurance. He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs and for the driving offences. Two other occupants in the car – a 36-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man – both from the Pwllheli area, were also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. All three have been released on police bail pending further enquiries. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

On Saturday morning shortly before 10am officers from Traffic Wales assisted a driver who had broken down near Queensferry. The officers contacted the police as they suspected that the driver of the broken down vehicle was driving under the influence of alcohol. An officer from the Roads Policing Unit later stopped the vehicle on the A494 in Alltami and the driver provided a positive breath test. He was taken to police custody where was found to be in possession of what is believed to be Class A drugs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The 36-year-old man, who is from the Manchester area, has since been charged with drink drive, possession of a Class A controlled drug and refusing to provide a sample for drug resting. He has been bailed to appear before Mold Magistrates on April 3rd. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

During the early hours of Saturday officers also arrested a 30-year-old man in the Rhyl area as he was wanted by Merseyside Police for various driving offences. Kurtis James Paul Morrissey, who is local to the Rhyl area, was subsequently remanded to appear before Llandudno Magistrates on Saturday, March 18th. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Over the weekend three vehicles were seized due to having no insurance and a driver was also handed a graduated fixed penalty for a £100 for driving at excess speed on the A55 in Northop. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A 33-year-old man from Gwersyllt was arrested after testing positive for cannabis whilst on Dinerth Road in Rhos-on-Sea on Friday afternoon. He has since been released on police bail pending the results of further tests. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

And a 41-year-old man from Darlington will be appearing before Wrexham Magistrates Court on March 31st after being charged with driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance. He was stopped by officers whilst on the A483 in Wrexham. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Officers also dealt with a road traffic collision on the A4212 in Fron Goch near Bala involving a motorcycle. The cyclist was airlifted to hospital in Stoke, after his injuries were deemed to be serious, however, thankfully he has since been discharged from hospital. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Inspector Dave Cust of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Our dedicated patrols are working 24/7 to put the brakes on motorists who take to the roads whilst under the influence of drink or drugs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Several drug-related arrests were carried out, including the seizure of a large amount of what is believed to be Class B drugs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He added: “We have a robust strategy around enforcing the ‘Fatal5’ offences which includes drink and drug driving, dangerous driving including unnecessary risk taking, speeding, failing to wear a seatbelt and using a mobile phone whilst driving. We cannot do this in isolation and are appealing to anybody who may have information regarding anybody committing a ‘Fatal 5’ offence to contact us.
