Consider Livestock And Horses As We Approach Bonfire Night
As Bonfire Night approaches, Wrexham Council’s Animal Health Officers are issuing advice about the use of fireworks around livestock and horses and wish to encourage those who are planning to let off fireworks, to be considerate of any livestock and horses in the area. They can cause significant distress to the animals themselves and to their owners should any consequences occur as a result of fireworks being used near them.
With this in mind Animal Health Officers of the Trading Standards Service have developed two advice leaflets aimed at horse owners and those who are planning to let off fireworks in areas where there are known populations of horses.
Councillor for Brymbo, Paul Rogers said: “There is high population of both horses and livestock within my ward area. Fireworks can cause serious distress to animals and sometimes injury should they react.
“I urge those who wish to use fireworks to be mindful of any animals around them and take the advice issued”.
The public are also urged to ensure that they only purchase fireworks from registered premises and not from pub sellers, street hawkers or from vans and cars. Should anyone come across fireworks being sold in this way, please notify Wrexham Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 04 05 06.
