Brynmenyn Pupils Visit Site Where Their Brand New School Will Be Built
A group of children from Brynmenyn Primary have taken an exciting look into the future by visiting the site where building work will soon begin on their brand new school.
The school is being relocated less than a mile away from its current home on Bryn Road to the former site of Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School next to Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen.
Building work is set to start in the next two months, with the brand new school due to open in January 2018.
Headteacher Clare Dale said: “The children are starting to get excited now, and are particularly thrilled that they will have grass in the new school. As the current school is surrounded by concrete they are really looking forward to that.
“The school council have already been getting involved over the past year by visiting other new schools and sharing their experiences with the rest of their classmates.
“We’re now looking forward to choosing Building Champions to take on the next stage in the process, and are planning a number of exciting learning opportunities for pupils based around the new school being built.”
Brynmenyn Primary School is being relocated due to the current site being unsuitable for expansion as a result of its size and the fact it is surrounded by common land.
The new school will be bigger with more modern facilities and will help Bridgend County Borough Council cope with a rising demand for school places in the Valleys Gateway area for years to come.
