Celtic Court Earns Acclaim As Wales’ Most Accessible New Building
The Celtic Court health and wellbeing centre in Bridgend has been acclaimed as Wales’ most inclusive new building at the Welsh Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.
Designed and built by Bridgend County Borough Council, the centre on Tremains Road picked up the award in recognition of it being fully accessible for both staff and visitors.
The building incorporates a platform lift and accessible staircase, whilst floor levels, circulation spaces and door widths allow for wheelchair users.
The building also provides fully accessible facilities in the form of toilets, shower rooms, working kitchens and meeting rooms, enabling full engagement between users and staff.
Having won the Welsh award at a recent ceremony held at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Celtic Court will now be considered for a further accolade at the National LABC Building Excellence Awards which will be staged at the end of November in the Westminster Park Plaza, London.
Councillor Ceri Reeves, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The LABC Building Excellence Awards are about celebrating excellence from the drawing board to the site, and recognise the workmanship and technical innovation that goes into constructing high quality buildings that meet customer needs.
“Celtic Court won two categories at the Bridgend County Borough LABC Building Excellence Awards earlier this year, and it is excellent to see the building gain national recognition too. Well done to everyone who was involved in the design and construction of this impressive building that meets all customer needs.”
At the UK awards in London, Celtic Court will be one of 12 buildings on the national shortlist for ‘Best Inclusive Building’.
