New Date Confirmed For Relocation Of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Cwm Garw
A new date has been confirmed for the relocation of one of Bridgend County Borough’s Welsh medium primary schools.
Cabinet Members from Bridgend County Borough Council last week approved a revised proposal for Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Cwm Garw to move from its current location in Pontycymer and open on a new site next to the current Betws Primary School in January 2019.
Confirming the plans, the council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Huw David said: “We’d like to inform parents, pupils, teachers and the local community that the construction of the brand new school has been put back slightly, and we will now be working towards it opening in January 2019.
“The new school will be relocated next to Betws Primary School on the land that used to house Betws’ junior school block before it was destroyed by fire four years ago.
“As well as state of the art educational facilities in line with the council’s school modernisation agenda, the new school will also offer improved access for disabled children and access to enhanced outdoor space and, for the first time, on-site sports pitches.”
Funded by the council and the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme, the new Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Cwm Garw school will feature 210 places for pupils aged between four and 11 as well as 45 full time nursery places.
Councillor David added: “This exciting scheme will provide pupils with vastly improved facilities and opportunities and we will be issuing further updates regarding when the building work will commence.”
