Staff At Cardiff Metropolitan University Awarded For Donations

Staff at Cardiff Metropolitan University have been commended for their donations to the Student Hardship Fund by receiving a bronze award for their Pennies from Heaven scheme. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Pennies from Heaven scheme is an existing charity model – employee’s net pay is rounded down to the nearest pound with the pennies donated to charity. Cardiff Met joined many organisations across the UK and adopted the scheme in 2015, with all donated salaries going to the Student Hardship Fund. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Organisations that are part of the initiative have recently been awarded, based on the level of staff participation. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Thanks to donations from 12% of staff, Cardiff Metropolitan University was awarded a bronze award, alongside well known organisations such as HSBC, The Bank of England and NHS Foundation Trust. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

All money donated through staff salaries in the Pennies from Heaven scheme is donated to the Student Hardship Fund. The Student Hardship Fund supports Cardiff Met students who are facing financial crisis. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Rob Cummings, Dean of Students at Cardiff Met commented, “all of the donations through the Pennies from Heaven scheme are gratefully received and on behalf of the students I would like to thank each and every member of staff that has signed up – your donation is making a real difference to some of our most disadvantaged students.’ ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

We hope that the Pennies from Heaven scheme will continue to grow in 2016, and next year we will be celebrating a silver award.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
