A Meeting Of Minds With University Experts
University experts have met with counterparts from our international partner, KU Leuven, to discuss modern aspects of analysis and scientific computing.
The meeting, hosted by the University’s School of Computer Science and Informatics and the School of Mathematics, brought together academics from Belgium’s largest university to share knowledge on theories, algorithms and solutions.
This came as the University celebrates its international credentials as part of #WeAreInternational week (24-30 October). This campaign was launched in 2013 to help ensure universities remain diverse and inclusive communities that are open to students and staff from across the world.
Academics from KU Leuven were welcomed to the University by Professor Karen Holford, Pro Vice-Chancellor College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, before a number of scientific presentations from both parties.
Professor Walter Van Assche, from the Department of Mathematics at KU Leuven, said: “Some of the talks at the meeting had interesting overlap, so there are possibilities of joint research.
“We even found out that some people in Cardiff and Leuven are already working together. We surely hope that the collaboration between Cardiff and Leuven also leads to joint PhDs with young researchers spending time at both universities.”
The University signed a landmark co-operation agreement with KU Leuven in 2014, securing a partnership that would boost research income, create new research collaborations and offer more opportunities for students and staff to study and teach abroad.
This strategic partnership forms a major part of the University’s international commitment, ensuring that diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and plays an important part in both the University’s activities and culture.
