More than 100 international researchers, policy-makers and practitioners will share ideas on urban and regional innovation systems, regional development and regional innovation policy. The 11th Regional Innovation Policies Conference 2016 features keynote addresses by leading academics from Austria, Norway, the Czech Republic and Canada. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Kevin Morgan, Professor of Governance and Development, School of Geography and Planning, said: “We are delighted Cardiff has been chosen to host this major international gathering because it is the premier academic conference in the field of regional innovation studies. This year’s event demonstrates that our understanding of innovation is rapidly changing because social innovation is now deemed to be as important as technological innovation and universities can play a big part in this new world if they take their civic missions seriously”. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The event takes place at the School of Geography and Planning in the Glamorgan Building on 3 and 4 November. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Delegates will explore major challenges facing policy-makers, including how to stimulate new modes of innovation, urban versus regional innovation systems, new approaches to knowledge exchange, cross-border and transnational innovation, and the role of Universities in regional innovation. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
