Cardiff University is ranked amongst the world’s top 150 universities and in the top 20 in the UK according to a prestigious US university rankings. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The US News Best Global Universities rankings published this month is based on universities’ academic research and reputation. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Now in their third year, the Best Global Universities rankings see Cardiff placed 149th in the world and 18th amongst UK universities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Cardiff University is an international community that values students and staff that come to study and work here from around the world,” according to Professor Nora de Leeuw, Pro Vice-Chancellor, International and Europe. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“That’s why I am extremely pleased to see that we are ranked so highly in this year’s US News Best Global Universities rankings. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The University has a long and proud history of welcoming students from the United States with over 100 American students studying with us. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“As a University, our ambition is to consistently rank in the top 100 in the world and the top 20 in the UK so it’s pleasing to see progress.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The overall Best Global Universities rankings consist of the top 1,000 institutions spread across 65 countries. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The rankings also see Cardiff achieve five subjects ranked in the world’s top 100. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The subjects are Immunology; Molecular Biology and Genetics; Psychiatry/Psychology; Social Sciences and Public Health; and Space Science. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The University’s success in these latest rankings is echoed by US students studying at the University. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Matt Waskiewicz, who is studying for an MSc in Urban & Regional Development in the School of Geography & Planning and is an Alumnus of the Fulbright Wales Summer Institute, said: “I’m glad to hear that Cardiff is being recognised for the global excellence it so clearly has. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Glad, but not surprised as it’s been clear to me since my first experience of Cardiff University in 2013, when I attended the Fulbright Wales Summer Institute, that Cardiff is a world-ranked university with some of the best faculty in the world. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“At that time I immediately fell in love with both the city and the University for its vibrant culture, rich history, and bountiful green spaces and I made up my mind then that it was where I wanted to pursue my Masters degree. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The University’s location in the heart of Cardiff makes it uniquely situated to draw in faculty who are engaged in their professions on the same challenges we’re studying in class, and we are able to apply what we’re learning to the outside world.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
