Update: Explosion In George Street, Newport

At 7.30pm on Saturday we received reports of an explosion at George Street in Newport. The explosion caused extensive damage to the premise and adjacent buildings. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The occupant of the property, a 50 year old man, is currently in Morriston Hospital in Swansea with life threatening injuries. There were no other major injuries caused. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A joint investigation is on-going in conjunction with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. No other people are being sought in connection with this incident. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

George Street has now been re-opened and residents have been re-housed whilst the investigation and repairs are taking place. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
