UPDATE: Newport Man Charged Following Two Robberies…

Following reports of two robberies in the Newport area a local man has now been charged in connection with both offences. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The first occurred at approximately 13:35pm on Friday 20th January 2017 at a property on Wharf Road in Newport. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The second at approximately 9:20am on Wednesday 18th January 2017 at a store on Corporation Road in Newport. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In both incidents the victims and those present in premises at the time were left unhurt but were understandably shaken. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A 56 year old male from Newport has been charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He has been remanded into custody to appear before the courts later this morning. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
