Warning To Caerphilly Residents After Thieves Target The Area

Gwent Police are warning residents to keep a closer eye on their property and report any suspicious activity immediately after a spike in reported incidents throughout the Caerphilly area in the past 8 days. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

As the better weather approaches, officers are urging residents not to become complacent by leaving any windows and doors open. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The reminder comes after a spate of burglaries overnight on 17th April 2016 in the Energlyn area of Caerphilly. Reported crimes include: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

An unlocked garage door on Court Road was targeted where a grey bag containing an A Frame tow equipment for camper with spare index plates were stolen, these were later found nearby in a rear lane (Log: 134 17/04/16) ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A garage was targeted on Court Road, access was gained via a rear lane. The pad locks were cut off and the shutter was forced bent, 2 acoustic guitars and cases were stolen, along with bagpipes and case and a watch. The guitars and bagpipes were later found nearby in a rear lane (Log: 189 17/04/16) ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A Mazda MX5 was broken into which was parked at the side of Court Road. Entry was gained through the rear window, where the central console was damaged and small changed stolen (Log 232 12/06/16) ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

There was also an attempt to steal a mobility scooter for a garden in Heol Pwll Y Pant (Log: 1600135672) ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Police are also reminding residents to lock all window and doors of their cars and not to take any chances with leaving their vehicles insecure after a number of breaks on Tuesday 12th April 2016 in the Castle View Estate. Three cars were broken into on the same night where money, sunglasses, a brief case and laptop were stolen. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Caerphilly Crime and Disorder Reduction Officer, PC Stuart Lewis says: “We are currently investigating each reported crime and asking residents to secure their property. Extra patrols have now been put in place by uniformed and plain clothed officers but I also want remind residents to double check their security and please report any suspicious activity immediately by calling Gwent Police on 101 or if you see a crime taking place, call 999.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
