Warning To Ystrad Mynach Residents After Thieves Target The Area
Gwent Police are warning residents to keep a closer eye on their property and report any suspicious activity immediately after a spike in reported incidents in Ystrad Mynach in last week.
As the better weather approaches, officers are urging residents not to become complacent by leaving car or home windows and doors open.
The reminder comes after a spate of attempted breaks and breaks overnight from Tuesday 3rd May to Wednesday 4th May. Reported crimes include:
An attempted break on a Vauxhall Vivaro on Cwm Calon Road, fortunately nothing was stolen (Log: 98 05/04/16)
A Citroen C5 was broken into on Buttercup Close, Cwm Calon and a camera, money and sat-nav stolen (Log: 319 05/04/16)
Two vehicles, a Peugeot 207 and a Volvo C30 were also broken into where a set of walkie-talkies and a sat-nav were stolen (Log: 476 05/04/16)
Neighbourhood Policing Team Ward Manager for the Ystrad Mynach area, PC Westley Morgan says: “We are currently investigating each reported crime and asking residents to secure their property. Extra patrols have now been put in place by uniformed and plain clothed officers but I also want remind residents to double check their security and please report any suspicious activity immediately by calling Gwent Police on 101 or if you see a crime taking place, call 999.
“The Mobile Police Station has been and will continue to visit the area, in particular, the Cwm Calon estate – during these visits, you can pop along to see myself or a member of the Ystrad Mynach Team for advice as well as discuss any issues you may have. Please keep updated on our visiting times by following the Ystrad Mynach Team on Twitter @gpystradmyach – we’ll be in the Merlin Avenue (by the entrance of the bike track) tomorrow (Wednesday 11th May 2016) at 5.30pm.”
