Improvements to Access at Merthyr Tydfil Bus Stop Under Consideration by Council

Improvements to access at a Merthyr Tydfil bus stop are being considered by the council. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

On Wednesday, January 17 the council’s cabinet will consider requests from ward councillors for improvements to be made to the bus stop at Tai’r Twynau in Pant to improve accessibility, before consulting with the public. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

 Officers in the engineering department have produced proposals to construct a footpath at Tai’r Twynau to the north of Gwladys Street. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The cabinet report said the footpath would aid accessibility and road safety to the bus stop and around Tai’r Twynau. It said that the existing carriageway width is narrow and accommodating the proposals would require the section of Tai’r Twynau to be made one-way in a northerly direction.
No Entry signs will be placed at the top of Tai’r Twynau and residents from the top of Gwladys Street would be able to travel north along the one-way whilst from Tai’r Twynau residents would use Edward Street.
There are administrative costs relating to the publishing of traffic regulation order notices which come to £4,000 and is to be met from the traffic management budget.
If no objections are received then the order will be made but if there are objections a report will go before the appropriate council committee. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
