Six Candidates to Compete in Elections to Fill Vacancies on Caldicot Town Council

SIX candidates will fight it out in two elections to fill the last remaining vacancies on a council after a mass walk out by some members. 
A long running dispute resulted in five councillors resigning at once from their town council in February. 
Six vacancies were advertised which has resulted in two of the seats being filled, as only one candidate in each ward came forward, while six candidates are now fighting to fill the final four seats on Caldicot Town Council. 
Two elections are required as the empty seats are split between the Caldicot Castle and West End wards which each elect two members. 
Voters in those wards will be asked to go the polls on two consecutive weeks as the elections will be held on Thursday, May 14 a week after the Senedd elections. 
In the Castle ward the three candidates are Jimmy Harris, Carl Denys Jones and Gavin King who are all listed as independents, though the statement of persons nominated, published by Monmouthshire County Council, shows Mr Harris was a member of Reform UK from June last year until April 9 this year. 
The three candidates in the West End ward are Ben Barrett, Alex McIntyre and Marcus Vine and are all listed as independents though Mr Barrett and Mr Vine were members of Reform UK until February this year. 
The single member vacancies for Caldicot Cross and Dewstow wards have been filled by uncontested elections. 
Independent Gail McIntyre, whose home address in Sandy Lane is the same as Mr McIntyre who is a candidate in the West End ward, will represent the Cross Ward while Dewstow will be represented by independent Martin Peters. 
Anyone aged 16 and over is entitled to vote in Senedd and council elections and there is no requirement to show ID to vote. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
