Local business The Natural Play Company has been appointed to build a new adventure golf course at Aberavon Seafront and is set to start work on site this week. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Part of the ongoing regeneration of Aberavon Seafront, the scheme will see the creation of a new seaside themed 12 hole course and refreshment kiosk on a vacant piece of land between the Aquasplash and play area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The development has been made possible by a successful bid from Neath Port Talbot Council to the Coastal Communities Fund, which is funded by the Government with income from the Crown Estate’s marine assets. It is delivered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Bryn-based The Natural Play Company has undertaken a number of previous similar projects for tourist venues across the region and further afield. These include an indoor adventure play, golf and café at the adventure centre in Bluestone, Pembrokeshire; Pirate Adventureland golf course in Weston Super Mare; an adventure golf course and adventure play area in Dan-yr-Ogof National Showcaves and an indoor adventure play centre at Wiggleys Farm, Bridgend. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The adventure golf course is the latest in a series of additions to the beachfront and follows the redesign of the sunken gardens, new children’s and toddlers’ play equipment, skateboard ramps, improved signage and shelter facilities and the £13m Aberavon Leisure and Fitness Centre.
These amenities have in turn seen new private investment in the area with the redevelopment and expansion of a number of food outlets serving visitors to the seafront. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Work will start on site on Monday 9th May and it is anticipated that the new facility will be open for the start of the school summer holidays. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council Cllr Ali Thomas said: “I am looking forward to seeing work begin on the latest attraction for Aberavon’s fine seafront. The adventure golf course will complement the other improvement works which we have undertaken in recent years and provide people with another great reason to enjoy their visit.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Our regeneration strategy for the seafront is attracting additional investment from local businesses and ensuring that the area is fast becoming a popular year-round destination for residents and visitors alike.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
