Councillors Approve Dog-Walking Venture on Outskirts of Newport

Councillors have given the thumbs up to a dog-walking venture on the outskirts of Newport.
The secure dog-walking area is already up and running near Penhow, and welcomes customers who pre-book sessions online, case officer Emma Brinkworth told the city council’s planning committee.
She said visitor numbers are controlled, with a maximum of four vehicles and 12 dogs allowed at any one time at the site, off Pike Road.
The dog-walking venture operates in daylight hours, and council planners considered the proposed change of use of the field to be “appropriate within the countryside”.
Ms Brinkworth added the field had “not been used for agricultural purposes for some time”, but could be “returned to agricultural use in the future if required”.
Cllr Will Routley, who sits on the planning committee and also represents the Bishton and Langstone ward, where the site is located, said he “fully” supported the proposals.
“We are seeing more and more diversity programmes coming forward for our agricultural fields – and this is welcomed when such diversity is needed,” he said.
“These dog-walking fields are a prime example of where diversity and public need actually go hand in hand.”
The committee voted unanimously to approve retrospective planning permission, subject to conditions. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
