Transporter Bridge Re-Opens To Public On 23 March
A Newport landmark and tourist attraction is due to re-open for the summer season in time for the Easter holiday.
From 23 March until 30 September, the Transporter Bridge will be open between 10am and 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday, as well as Bank Holiday Mondays until the end of August.
The last admission will be 4pm and the last ferry crossing from west to east at 4.30pm
Newport Transporter Bridge is one of only six transporter bridges that are still operational in the world.
Opened in 1906, it was constructed as a shorter route for workers who were travelling to the newly created heavy industries on the eastern side of the city.
In recent years, its use as a main highway route dwindled especially after the opening of the Southern Distributor Road but it remains a popular tourist attraction.
It has featured in a number of television programmes in the last year including BBC’s Antiques Roadshow and documentaries
Charges for 2016 are as follows:

Single crossing – £1 for adults, 50 pence for children

Children aged two and under travel free. Staff have the right to refuse access to children and young people who are not accompanied by an adult.
