The dynamic duo were part of the Princes Gate Trust cycling team that aims to raise funds for disadvantaged children, and inspire youngsters around the county to explore the great outdoors and be active. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

They were joined by Pembrokeshire County Council Sports Development staff together with professional triathlete Ollie Simon, David Jones, managing director of Princes Gate Water and County Councillor Mark Edwards. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Beginning the ride at Tasker Milward, Shane Williams addressed the school at the morning assembly before they made the shortest ride of the 80-mile day, to Portfield School. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

From there they headed west to Ysgol Dewi Sant in St Davids, north to Fishguard, and over the Preseli Mountains to Crymych before the longest stretch took them to the finishing line at Tenby’s Greenhill School. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Along the way they called in at Solva, Croesgoch, Bro Ingli and Narberth primary schools. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Each school staged a fundraising event for the intrepid cyclists ranging from rugby, boccia, tug of war and a slow bike race at Ysgol Dewi Sant that comprised of head teacher David Haynes, Canon Dorrien Davies of St Davids’ Cathedral and Chris Morgan, a businessman in the City ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“It was a brutal but fun ride,” said Shane Williams. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“I’d like to thank all of the schools for their hospitality during the day and for the efforts they have made in raising funds for some much needed causes. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“A lot of children will benefit from their generosity.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

His words were echoed by the manager of Sport Pembrokeshire, Ben Field ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Given the Arctic winds we have endured recently you have to applaud the cyclists for their endeavour. It couldn’t have been pleasant at times but the aim of the day was to raise money and inspire the county’s youngsters and they have certainly done that with the help of Pembrokeshire Schools.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
