Pupils Grill Councillor During Chamber Visit
Pupils from St Dogmaels School had a chance to grill their local Councillor during a visit to County hall on Tuesday.
Councillor Mike James who represents the village accompanied the school on their tour as guests of Council Chairman Councillor Wynne Evans.
After meeting staff from various departments, the pupils were given a history of their school by Helen Evans of Pembrokeshire Archives whilst in the council chambers.
Following their brief history lesson they all asked Cllr James a series of questions on issues that affect their school and community.
Councillor James had to answer questions such as; how do you decide how much money each school gets? How much money does the Council spend each year and where does it come from? When will the gates be fixed to our sports field? And, when can we get more tablets for our school?
“There are certainly a few budding politicians at the school, I can assure you of that,” said Councillor James.
“They asked some pertinent questions and showed a level of maturity throughout their visit that was a credit to them and the school.
“St Dogmaels can be very proud of them.”
His views were echoed by teacher Mrs Helen Martin who added the children will definitely learn from their visit.
“It was wonderful to see behind the scenes at the council and I speak on behalf of all the pupils when I say how grateful we are for the visit.
“The pupils loved it in the chambers especially when they were able to ask questions to Councillor James.
“They will never forget that.”
