Date Set For Y Pant Opening
Work continues to progress well at Y Pant Comprehensive School as part of the £24m investment which will see new and improved facilities for the benefit of pupils, staff and the wider community.
Staff and pupils look set to move into their brand-new premises in December, with all new furniture and fittings being delivered by the end of November.
Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, has again been along to Y Pant Comprehensive School to see the latest works being carried out, accompanied by Pontypridd MP Owen Smith.
Both were shown around the new development by contractors Morgan Sindall as classrooms are currently being fitted out and flooring is being laid.
The multi-million-pound investment, which is part of the Council’s 21st Century Schools programme, is supported by Welsh Government.
Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “I was delighted to see all the progress being made at Y Pant Comprehensive School and share the pride with Owen Smith MP.
“We were both overwhelmed by the standard of work being carried out and also the amazing facilities that the staff and pupils will enjoy when they move into their new premises next year.
“We look forward to making a return visit when staff and pupils are in their new facilities.
“Work on the new school building, as part of the Council’s £24m, 21st Century Schools investment, is on target for completion very soon and the excitement continues to build.
“It is an exciting time for all involved in the Y Pant Comprehensive School development.”
Cllr Hanagan has also praised the staff and pupils who have continued to work on-site while the development continues. She added: “This year’s GCSE results were the best ever for Y Pant demonstrating the positive, ‘business as usual’ approach that staff and pupils have adopted whilst the substantial improvements to school facilities have been, and continue to be, carried out.
“The council remains committed to providing the best possible school facilities for pupils across Rhondda Cynon Taf and we are grateful for the ongoing support of Welsh Government via the 21st Century Schools programme.”
