Discover Our Local Heritage
The next Open Day at the Cynon Valley Museum and Gallery takes place on Saturday, May 28.
Organised jointly by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Cynon Valley Museum Trust, the Open Day is aimed at all ages and will offer visitors the chance to discover what life was like in the County Borough in bygone years.
Take a nostalgic stroll among all of the exhibits and retrace the steps of our ancestors.
Other attractions will include a Picture This exhibition, featuring the works of local photographers – each with their own style and unique view of the world.
The photographers, male and female, have all been taking classes locally for the last seven months and this will be their debut exhibition.
Local artist Gayle Rogers will also be hosting her exhibition entitled Windswept : Work in Progress on the same day at the Cynon Valley Museum, focussing on “the changing landscape, inspired by the current Pen Y Cymoedd project.”
Members of the Cynon Valley Museum Trust will also be on hand to discuss the exciting future development of the museum and talk to potential volunteers.
Last month it was announced that with the support of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, the ambitions of Cynon Valley Museum Trust have moved a stage closer following confirmation that Heritage Lottery Funding has been secured.
Cynon Valley Museum is situated on the site of the 19th Century Gadlys Ironworks, which were founded by Matthew Wayne in 1827.
Iron was produced on the site until 1876. The building that houses the museum is Grade II listed and the four impressive blast furnaces from the 19th Century works still stand on the site.
The Cynon Valley Museum Open Day takes place on Saturday, May 28. All are welcome. Admission is Free.
