Hawthorn Swimming Pool Set To Re-Open

Hawthorn Swimming Pool is set to re-open in the near future as works to repair and improve the facility near completion; following a Council investment of almost £0.800M. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Council took the decision to invest in the pool and bring it back to use for the benefit of the community and Hawthorn High School, after serious damage to the roof was identified, causing it to be closed. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Culture, said: “With the pool being handed over to the school on May 25th following repairs, the local community can really start to look forward to being able to access the pool in the near future. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We have been pleased with the fantastic progress that has been made with the repair of the pool following Cabinet’s decision to invest almost £0.800M which meant the facility could be brought back into use. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We recognised the value placed on the facility within the community and are pleased we have been able to work with the school and make the necessary investment to re-open it. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The school and its pupils, as well as the wider community, will all benefit from the pool becoming operational again. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Hawthorn High School will be managing the pool operation on a day to day basis helping to ensure the facility has a sustainable future. This is consistent with our RCT Together approach which looks at alternative methods of delivering services and operating facilities in partnership with our communities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Following completion of the repair works the pool will be handed over to the school on May 25th at which point the school will make preparations for the re-opening of the pool beginning with school usage. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Further details regarding when the pool will be re-open to the public will be announced in due course. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Headteacher of Hawthorn High School, Jason Hicks, added: “The school is looking forward to being able to reopen the doors to the pool, once all repairs, compliance and health & safety checks have been completed. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We are confident that the community will be really impressed with the works that have been undertaken and the plans that we have for the facility and the continuing development of other sports facilities at the school.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
