Movie And Music At Park & Dare Theatre
A special birthday party is set to take place at the Park & Dare Theatre as part of a national festival celebrating ‘creativity in older age.’
The annual Gwanwyn Festival, held at arts and culture venues across Wales, offers the opportunity for greater participation by Over-50s in the arts, whether visual arts, drama, storytelling, music, literature, photography, dance or film.
The Rhondda Cynon Taf celebrations, on Friday, May 27, will include a movie screening plus an afternoon of music from the 1950s and 1960s in the company of a popular Welsh entertainer.
There will also be a ‘sing-along and dance-if-you-want to’ session with Kinky Beats Showband in the lounge bar, along with demonstration and have-a-go sessions with local arts and crafts groups.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for the Environment, Leisure and Culture, said: “The Council is delighted that our Park & Dare Theatre has been selected as one of 10 locations across Wales to host a Gwanwyn birthday party to celebrate the national arts festival’s 10th anniversary.
“All over Wales there are groups of older people exploring their creativity in all sorts of ways, none more so than our local residents in Rhondda Cynon Taf.”
The Gwanwyn Festival’s 10th Birthday Celebration at the Park & Dare Theatre kicks off at 11am with the showing of the movie Eddie The Eagle – the inspirational story of Eddie Edwards, the British ski-jumper who charmed the world at the 1988 Winter Olympics, held in Calgary. Admission £2.
This will be followed at 2pm by a performance by Owen Money and The Travelling Wrinkles. Admission £4, includes refreshments.
The FREE community activities run from 11am until 1pm.
The Gwanwyn Festival, which began in 2007, is supported by Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government.
The Gwanwyn Festival takes place at the Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy, on Friday, May 27. Over-50s are welcome to come along and join in the fun.
